PARIS， Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Yemisi Ogunleye clinched Germany's first athletics gold medal of the Paris Games after a dramatic finish to the women's shot put on Friday.

The 25-year-old took the lead with her final throw of 20.00m， relegating New Zealand's Maddison-Lee Wesche to the silver medal.

China's Song Jiayuan claimed bronze while her compatriot and defending Olympic champion Gong Lijiao finished fifth.

"My goal coming into these championships was [to throw] 20 meters，" Ogunleye said.

"I knew I was capable of throwing such distances. In the Olympic competitions， it is necessary to bring all the best you have because you only have this chance once."

Ogunleye explained that her final attempt required all of her self belief and energy.

"In that moment， I was just saying a prayer【MVBD-038】M’s人気女優総集編，" she said. "It was the moment when I knew that if I have the faith， I am capable to do more than I can think or ask for. I just took all the energy that had left and just put it out there."  ■
